|28.10.2018||A Request from Pope Francis||As I said last week, Pope Francis has asked us to pray more intensely for the Church, especially during this month of October. He asks us to pray the Rosary every day with the intention that the Blessed Virgin Mary will help the Church and defend her against the attacks of the Devil. Pope Francis invites us to conclude our recitation of the Rosary with an ancient invocation to Our Lady - the Sub tuum praesidium, as well as reciting the prayer to St Michael, the Archangel. We will add these prayers to our Rosary prayers at Mass this month and, I hope, retain them thereafter as we continue to offer up these prayers daily. To assist us I have printed the prayers below: We fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen. St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in the day of battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.|
|28.10.2018||A Message from Archbishop Bernard||As many of you will already be aware, the Archdiocese of Birmingham will be participating in the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) at a hearing next month (Nov) in London. The Archdiocese has been asked to participate in IICSA's investigations along with other organisations within the Catholic Church. A Pastoral Letter will be read out in all churches next weekend on this matter. If you would like to speak to someone about safeguarding and the Church's work, please call 0121 230 6240 or emergency out-of-hours on 07976 516629. Meditations before the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesdays continue to reflect on the writings of Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan who in 2000 Pope John Paul II chose to preach a course of Spiritual Exercises for himself and the Curia. Archbishop Van Thuan majors on "hope" in his addresses - a hope that he discovered during his 13 years imprisonment for his faith, nine of which were spent in solitary confinement. This Wednesday's meditations continue to explore the great blessing of coming into the present moment - the place where God - the eternally present 'I AM' - is to be found. We are greatly assisted in this by having Christ present to us, in the sacrament of the altar. In our prayerful stillness and reflection before Christ in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar we can be present to the One who is ever present. All welcome.
The candle is lit this week for Maureen and Joe Martin (RIP).

A message from CAFOD “Florence is a hard-working mother who is devoted to her family. A few years ago, she was only just making enough to feed her family. However, CAFOD’s partner, the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, recognised how determined Florence was to stand on her own two feet and so they gave her 500 tiny fish, tools and training to build a pond and farm fish. By selling some of the fish at market, Florence was able to give her children a future – she was able to send them to school”. Please support this Lent Fast Day, to ensure more people like Florence can turn tiny fish into something amazing
