Parishioners and friends of Blessed Robert Grissold Catholic Church in Balsall Common celebrating on 9th July 2016 as our church was consecrated, 22 years after it was built.

The Most Reverend Bernard Longley, Archbishop of Birmingham, presided at the consecration service, which was attended by parishioners, priests from neighbouring Catholic churches, ministers and representatives from other churches in the surrounding area, along with a Papal Dame and two Papal Knights – including Solihull resident, broadcaster and comedian Don Maclean.

46 parishioners, with ages ranging from 8 to over 80, played an active role in the service itself, with numerous other parishioners working behind the scenes both beforehand and on the day of the consecration, in diverse roles such as cleaning the church, preparing the stunning floral arrangements, acting as car park marshalls, greeting guests and providing refreshments, and many others.

Father Frank Smith, Parish Priest of Blessed Robert Grissold Church, said how proud he was of the way in which the parishioners had worked together in the months leading up to the consecration, and on the day itself, to ensure that the consecration was a truly memorable occasion.

After the service the Archbishop, guests and parishioners enjoyed a buffet lunch and a slice of a special consecration cake.
