09.07.2016 | Church Consecration – Final Details and Arrangements: Welcome | On Saturday 9th July at 12 noon we welcome Archbishop Bernard to consecrate our church. The Rite of Consecration will involve the blessing of the church and altar with holy water and oil and the relic of St Margaret Mary will be sealed in the altar upon which incense will be burned. This is a very special celebration and an important moment in the history of our community. Please be seated by 11.45 am so we can be ready in good time before the Archbishop starts |

The practice of being anointed with oil as a powerful prayer for strengthening and healing dates back to the earliest Church. Scripture bears witness to this when it says: “Are there any who are sick among you? Let them send for the priests of the Church and let the priests pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick persons, and the Lord will raise them up; and if they have committed any sins their sins will be forgiven them. |
