"Who do people say I am?" - This is the question posed to his disciples by Jesus in today’s Gospel. But more important is the question he poses to Peter: "But you, who do you say I am?" for this is a question posed to all of us too. So who is Jesus for us? Is he just a fine example of what it means to be a thoroughly decent human being or is there more to him than that? Is he, in fact, divine, the Son of God, the Second Person of God, the Most Holy Trinity made flesh? How we answer this question will determine how we respond to him and his message. It will deeply affect the way we live our lives, for if we truly believe that he is the Messiah and Son of God then why wouldn't we make every effort to get to know him and his will for us and strive to live accordingly?

TitleDescription
06.12.2017Advent and Christmas MeditationsYou are invited to share in these Wednesday evening meditations which will focus on the last things heralded by the coming of Christ at the end of time. In the Eucharist we have a foretaste of the future gathering of all things in unity in Christ. Why not use the Wednesdays of Advent and Christmastide to reflect on the mystery of our crucified, risen and ascended Lord who comes to us in the most holy Sacrament of the Altar? This will also help us to "stay awake" and be more watchful and aware of the ways in which Our Lord comes to us always and everywhere in the sacrament of each present moment. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, meditations and silent prayer will take place after the 7.00pm Wednesday Mass and will finish with Benediction at 8.00pm. All welcome.
06.12.2017Get TogetherGet together this Wednesday, 6th December. We meet at 10.30am in BRG car park for onward visit to Melbicks Garden Centre.
03.12.2017Congratulations!Sara, Simon and Sophia are so pleased to announce that Phoebe Catharine Maria was born 30th November at 2.10pm, weighing 8lb 3ozs. Father Frank and Sandra are delighted to have another grandchild.
03.12.2017Migrants Day. An Appeal on behalf of the Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre www.covrefugee.org. Asylum seekers, looking to obtain refugee status, need the Centre, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, to help them negotiate the many forms and demands confronting them. They may need financial support to attend immigration interviews in London or Liverpool, signposting to food banks or receiving help in getting a hot meal, when their £36.95/week for food and personal needs doesn't quite stretch. Immigration and Asylum Law support is available along with Men’s and Women's Groups and help in learning English to support their integration. Being alone in a foreign land can test the most resilient. Some, who have endured things we cannot imagine, may need specialist help. Those already here who have met verbal and physical abuse, or are at risk, may also need support from the Safeguarding Unit. Having achieved refugee status, together with migrants from other countries, they may need help in finding work or accommodation – the Work and Wellbeing Group and the Housing Group are there for them. No matter what their need, the Centre tries to help them. The Centre is heavily dependent on donations from people like you; please be as generous as you can – thank you.
03.12.2017Advent Parish Giving TreeThe tree is now up at the back of church. The gifts we collect will be given to those who are struggling this Christmas either through illness or difficult social situations. Many thanks to the children from the Children's Liturgy Group who decorated the tags for the children.
03.12.2017Balsall Parish Council's Neighbourhood Development PlanThe Plan is currently underway and during the month of November every household in Balsall Parish and Balsall Common received a Household Questionnaire which we were encouraged to complete and return. The questionnaire seeks ideas and opinions on a variety of issues within the Balsall Parish and Balsall Common area. Their ideas and opinions will create the Balsall Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan, a planning policy document which will state which community facilities should be developed, upgraded or enhanced from 2019 to 2033. If you have not completed the questionnaire, the deadline having been extended, you are invited to complete the document within the next couple of days.

26.11.2017A message from His Grace, Archbishop BernardDo you support Catholic schools and the right of Catholics to send their children to them? Then we need you to make your voice heard. The Government is making a critical decision on whether to overturn the admissions cap which prevents Catholic schools from allowing all Catholic pupils to attend. They have acknowledged that this policy discriminates against Catholics and promised to abandon it, now we need you to tell them not to U-turn on their promise to Catholics. Visit http://catholicnews.org.uk/education-cap or search for "Catholic Education" in your search engine to write to the Government and urge them to drop their policy which bans new Catholic schools

12.11.2017Month of RemembranceNovember is the month the Church especially remembers to pray for the dead. Today is Remembrance Sunday when we pray for the repose of the souls of all those who have lost their lives as a result of war and we continue to pray for our deceased loved ones throughout the month of November. Scriptures and the Church teach that we can help the departed through the offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for them, consequently Masses will be offered up for the Holy Souls of our loved ones over the course of November. If you wish for your loved ones to be included in these prayers, please find envelopes for your prayer intentions and offerings at the back of the church. Please write the names of your loved ones on the back of the envelope and place them, with your offering, in the tray in the sanctuary.

11.01.2017
On Wednesday evenings, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Meditations and silent prayer will follow the 7.00pm Mass, finishing at 8.00pm with Benediction. Why not be still and silent in the presence of Christ in the Holy Sacrament of the Altar? We so need silence in our busy, noisy lives, especially if we are to listen to the Holy Spirit within - then the Holy Spirit inspires us and fills us with his love. This is what it meant when it says in Holy Scripture that the Holy Spirit prays within us in sighs too deep for words. All welcome
08.01.2017

The series of meditations continue this week, drawing on the life and writings of St. Therese of Lisieux. Therese’s "Little Way" of confidence and trust in God's love and mercy is a way to God for everyone. One Jesuit writer says: "There is only one way for people to confront themselves and that is through silence. All of us need to develop a tolerance for silence, a place to touch the wellsprings of life inside of us." We can find this silence before Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar. All welcome.

If you prefer, you can email us instead - iehclarke@btinternet.com. Thank you.

We need your contributions of articles and photos for our Christmas newsletter. If you’ve never written for the newsletters before, this would be an ideal time to try it as we’ve had such a busy year! Perhaps you could give a behind-the scenes look at some of the preparations for the consecration, or review a parish event, or share your experience of the weekly meditations and reflections after mass, or write about some other aspect of parish life. All items, long or short, will be very welcome. Please email them to Ian and Ellie Clarke: iehclarke@btinternet.com.
