Berkswell Neighbourhood Development Plan
As you may know, our field at Meeting House Lane has been identified by the parish, the Archdiocese of Birmingham and Solihull MBC for development, but Berkswell Parish Council are seeking to allocate it as Local Green Space to thwart our efforts.
In conjunction with the Archdiocese of Birmingham, we have responded to the formal, technical exercise being run by Solihull MBC to formally object to the "plan being made with Meeting House Lane being allocated as Local Green Space in policy B4 of the Berkswell Neighbourhood Development Plan."
There is quite a campaign to oppose our development, and whilst the decision will not a be popularity competition, nevertheless it will do no harm for parishioners to let Solihull MBC know that there is support for our scheme for assisted living to provide for local residents so that they will not have to leave the village to have such accommodation.
If you feel able to, please email psp@solihull.gov.uk titled "Berkswell NDP Reg 16 Representation" and support the representation made on 10th December 2018 on behalf of the parish. Please note that the deadline for your emails is Friday 21st December 2018

Today is Gaudete Sunday and "Gaudete" refers to the joy of the Lord which we find echoed in today's scripture readings. We also hear about John the Baptist in today's Gospel and John marks the end of the time of waiting and the beginning of the new age in Jesus. John is the last of the great prophets. For a long time, the people had been without a messenger from God but in John the Baptist the people discovered an end to God's silence. Through John they could hear the word of God. We are told that many went out from the towns and cities to see John - which is testimony to his charismatic power to attract people - such is the powerful attraction of the word of God alive and active in a person.

Any new or existing parishioners who do not gift aid can do so by completing a simple form. Members of the Finance team will be available after mass today with forms.

All those who are challenged by their suffering in body, mind or spirit are welcome to receive this sacrament of Christ’s healing. This is a practice which dates back to the earliest Church and is encouraged in scripture, where it is written: 'Are there any who are sick among you? 05.02.2017Meditations before the Blessed Sacrament on WednesdaysMeditations before the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesdays continue to reflect on the writings of Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan who in 2000 Pope John Paul II chose to preach a course of Spiritual Exercises for himself and the Vatican staff. Archbishop Van Thuan majors on “hope” in his addresses - a hope that he discovered during his 13 years imprisonment for his faith, nine of which were spent in solitary confinement. This Wednesday’s meditations focus on what Jesus called the ‘one thing necessary,’ or as Van Thuan puts it “Choosing God and not the works of God.” Archbishop Van Thuan found hope in the presence of Christ, even amidst severe trials and deprivation. In our prayerful stillness and reflection before Christ in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar we can find that same hope. All welcome.

28.10.2018
October is the month of the Rosary and it is a good time therefore to renew our devotion to our Lord and our Blessed Lady through this rich source of prayer. We will offer up a decade of the Rosary before the Sunday Mass and after every weekday Mass throughout the month of October.
28.10.2018
As I said last week, Pope Francis has asked us to pray more intensely for the Church, especially during this month of October. He asks us to pray the Rosary every day with the intention that the Blessed Virgin Mary will help the Church and defend her against the attacks of the Devil. Pope Francis invites us to conclude our recitation of the Rosary with an ancient invocation to Our Lady - the Sub tuum praesidium, as well as reciting the prayer to St Michael, the Archangel. We will add these prayers to our Rosary prayers at Mass this month and, I hope, retain them thereafter as we continue to offer up these prayers daily. To assist us I have printed the prayers below: We fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen. St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in the day of battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
