Today the Church of God throughout the world celebrates the Solemnity of Pentecost. It is God's Spirit who inspires us to obey God's commandments. All who love God experience the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. He counsels us and reminds us of what Jesus has said. The Holy Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control. As we thank God today for the gift of his Holy Spirit let us ensure that our Christian discipleship manifests these fruits of God’s Spirit.

Our Choral Energy concert last week was a great success. A full house enjoyed music from The National Grid UK choir 'The Gridtones', our own choir, The Cecilias and other singing groups and soloists. The interval bar was complemented by a sale of baked goods courtesy of The Gridtones' own Misha Bruce. We made a total of £1267.70 which will be split between our parish and National Grid's chosen charity, The Alzheimer's Society UK. National Grid will take that donation and double it so well done to everyone involved.

Every last Thursday in the month there is an opportunity for those who are sick to partake of this sacrament. The practice of being anointed with oil as a powerful prayer for strengthening and healing dates back to the earliest Church. Scripture bears witness to this when it says: "Are there any who are sick among you? Let them send for the priests of the Church and let the priests pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick persons, and the Lord will raise them up; and if they have committed any sins their sins will be forgiven them."
